The band is named after a local piano tuner, Marshall Tucker, whose name was found on a key to their rehearsal space.
The band's original lineup included lead vocalist Doug Gray, guitarist Toy Caldwell, and keyboardist Jerry Eubanks. Over the years, they have undergone several lineup changes but continue to tour and release new music, maintaining a loyal fan base. Their sound is characterized by soulful melodies and intricate instrumentation, often featuring the flute and saxophone.
