The Marcels
The Marcels are an American doo-wop group formed in 1959 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They are best known for their hit single "Blue Moon," which topped the charts in 1961. The group’s unique sound combined vocal harmonies with a lively beat, making them a significant part of the doo-wop genre during the early 1960s.
The original lineup included members Cornell Gunter, Richard Knauss, Fred Johnson, Bobby Hendricks, and Jasper "J.J." Johnson. The Marcels' energetic performances and catchy songs helped them gain popularity, leading to several other successful singles. Their influence can still be seen in modern music, as they paved the way for future vocal groups.
