The First Law, often referred to in the context of Isaac Asimov's science fiction, is a principle governing the behavior of robots. It states that a robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. This law emphasizes the protection of humans as a fundamental priority for robotic behavior. In addition to the First Law, Asimov introduced two other laws to create a hierarchy of ethical guidelines for robots. The Second Law states that a robot must obey the orders given to it by humans, while the Third Law allows a robot to protect its own existence, as long as it does not conflict with the first two laws.
