The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is a nonprofit organization based in Montgomery, Alabama, founded by lawyer Bryan Stevenson in 1989. Its mission is to provide legal representation to individuals who have been unfairly treated in the criminal justice system, particularly those on death row and those facing harsh sentences.
