The Children of Lir
"The Children of Lir" is a famous Irish myth about the tragic fate of Lir, a powerful king. After the death of his wife, he marries Aoife, who becomes jealous of his children. In her anger, she transforms them into swans, condemning them to live on water for 900 years.
The children, Fionnuala, Aodh, Conn, and Fiachra, can only regain their human forms when they hear a church bell. They endure many hardships during their time as swans, including encounters with various rulers and changes in the world around them. Ultimately, they are transformed back into humans, but they find that they have lost their youth.
