The Bald Eagle is a large bird of prey native to North America. It is easily recognized by its white head and tail feathers, contrasting with its dark brown body and wings. Adult Bald Eagles have a wingspan of about 6 to 8 feet and can weigh between 3 to 6.3 kg. They primarily feed on fish but will also scavenge or hunt small mammals.
Bald Eagles build large nests, often in tall trees near water sources. These nests can be reused and expanded each year, sometimes reaching over 13 feet in diameter. The species is a symbol of the United States and was chosen as the national bird in 1782.
