Thaton Kingdom
The Thaton Kingdom was an ancient state located in present-day Myanmar, specifically in the Mon State region. It flourished from the 1st century CE until the 11th century CE, serving as a significant center for trade and culture in Southeast Asia. The kingdom was known for its rich Buddhist heritage and played a crucial role in the spread of Theravada Buddhism in the region.
Thaton was also notable for its interactions with neighboring kingdoms, including the Pagan Dynasty. The kingdom's capital, also named Thaton, was a vibrant hub that attracted merchants and scholars. Its decline began in the 11th century when it was absorbed into the expanding Pagan Empire.
