Tetanus Vaccine
The tetanus vaccine is a preventive shot that protects against tetanus, a serious bacterial infection caused by Clostridium tetani. This bacteria can enter the body through wounds or cuts, leading to muscle stiffness and spasms. The vaccine is typically given in childhood and requires booster shots every ten years to maintain immunity.
The vaccine is often combined with other vaccines, such as the diphtheria and pertussis vaccines, in a single shot known as the Tdap vaccine. It is safe and effective, helping to reduce the risk of tetanus infections, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.
