The Temple in Jerusalem refers to two ancient temples that were central to Jewish worship. The first temple, built by King Solomon, was completed in the 10th century BCE and served as the primary place of worship until its destruction by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. The second temple, constructed after the return from Babylonian exile, was expanded by Herod the Great and stood until its destruction by the Romans in 70 CE.
The temples housed sacred artifacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, and were located on the Temple Mount, a site of great religious significance. Today, the Western Wall, a remnant of the second temple, remains a place of prayer and pilgrimage for Jews worldwide.
