Telly Savalas was an American actor and television director, best known for his role as Detective Theo Kojak in the popular TV series Kojak, which aired from 1973 to 1978. Born on January 21, 1922, in Garden City, New York, he became famous for his bald head and distinctive lollipop prop, which became a signature of his character. In addition to his television work, Savalas appeared in numerous films, including The Dirty Dozen and Birdman of Alcatraz.
