Tegetthoff Expedition
The Tegetthoff Expedition was an Arctic exploration mission that took place from 1872 to 1874. Led by the Austrian explorer Julius von Tegetthoff, the expedition aimed to explore the polar regions and gather scientific data. The team set sail on the ship Tegetthoff, which became trapped in ice in the Franz Josef Land archipelago.
During the expedition, the crew conducted various scientific observations, including studies of geology, meteorology, and biology. After being trapped for nearly two years, the crew eventually managed to escape and return to Europe, contributing valuable knowledge about the Arctic environment and enhancing interest in polar exploration.
