Teddy Pendergrass
Teddy Pendergrass was an American singer and songwriter, known for his smooth, soulful voice and powerful performances. Born on March 26, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he first gained fame as the lead singer of the R&B group Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in the 1970s. His hits included "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and "Wake Up Everybody," which showcased his ability to blend soul and pop music.
After leaving the group, Pendergrass launched a successful solo career, releasing several albums that featured popular songs like "Turn Off the Lights" and "Close the Door." Despite a tragic car accident in 1982 that left him paralyzed from the waist down, he continued to perform and inspire many. Teddy Pendergrass passed away on January 13, 2010, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of R&B music.
