Tazobactam
Tazobactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that is often used in combination with certain antibiotics to enhance their effectiveness against resistant bacteria. It works by blocking the enzymes produced by bacteria that can break down antibiotics, allowing the drugs to work more effectively.
Typically, Tazobactam is combined with Piperacillin, forming a medication known as Piperacillin/Tazobactam. This combination is commonly used to treat various infections, including those caused by Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, which are known to develop resistance to many antibiotics.
