Talofibular Ligament
The talofibular ligament is a key ligament located in the ankle, connecting the talus bone to the fibula. It plays a crucial role in stabilizing the ankle joint, particularly during activities that involve lateral movements. This ligament helps prevent excessive inversion of the foot, which can lead to sprains.
There are two main parts of the talofibular ligament: the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) and the posterior talofibular ligament (PTFL). The ATFL is more commonly injured during ankle sprains, while the PTFL provides additional support to the ankle. Proper functioning of the talofibular ligament is essential for maintaining balance and mobility.
