TRAPPIST-1 is a star system located about 40 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Aquarius. It features a cool dwarf star, known as an ultra-cool red dwarf, which is much smaller and cooler than our Sun. The system is notable for having seven Earth-sized exoplanets, three of which are situated in the habitable zone where conditions might allow for liquid water.
The discovery of the TRAPPIST-1 system was made in 2017 using data from the Kepler Space Telescope. The planets are designated TRAPPIST-1b, c, d, e, f, g, and h, with some showing potential for supporting life. Scientists continue to study these planets to learn more about their atmospheres and potential habitability.
