TGA (Transposition)
TGA, or Transposition of the Great Arteries, is a congenital heart defect where the two main arteries leaving the heart are switched. In this condition, the aorta arises from the right ventricle, while the pulmonary artery comes from the left ventricle. This abnormal arrangement disrupts normal blood flow, leading to oxygen-poor blood circulating through the body.
Infants with TGA often exhibit symptoms such as cyanosis, which is a bluish tint to the skin due to low oxygen levels. Treatment typically involves surgical intervention to correct the positioning of the arteries, allowing for proper oxygenation of the blood and improving overall health.
