Synchondrosis
Synchondrosis is a type of joint where the bones are connected by hyaline cartilage. This type of joint allows for limited movement and is typically found in areas where flexibility is needed, such as the growth plates in long bones.
An example of synchondrosis is the connection between the first rib and the sternum. In this joint, the cartilage allows for slight movement, which is important for breathing and overall chest expansion. As a person ages, some synchondroses may ossify, turning into bone and becoming immovable.
