Synchiropus splendidus
Synchiropus splendidus, commonly known as the mandarin dragonet, is a small, brightly colored fish found in the shallow reefs of the western Pacific Ocean. It typically grows to about 3 inches in length and is known for its striking patterns of orange, blue, and green. This fish prefers to inhabit sandy or rubble areas near coral reefs, where it can easily hide from predators.
Mandarin dragonets are primarily carnivorous, feeding on small invertebrates like copepods and amphipods. They have a unique method of locomotion, using their pectoral fins to glide gracefully through the water. Due to their specific dietary needs and habitat requirements, they are often considered challenging to keep in home aquariums.
