Sybil Birling
Sybil Birling is a character from J.B. Priestley's play, "An Inspector Calls." She is the wife of Arthur Birling and the mother of Sheila and Eric. As the head of the Brumley Women's Charity Organization, Sybil is portrayed as a proud and socially prominent woman who holds traditional views. She often displays a sense of superiority and is dismissive of those she considers beneath her.
Throughout the play, Sybil's character reveals her lack of empathy, particularly towards Eva Smith, a young woman who sought help from her charity. Her refusal to accept responsibility for the consequences of her actions highlights the themes of social responsibility and class disparity that are central to the play.
