Sustain Pedal
The sustain pedal is a component of a piano or keyboard that allows notes to continue sounding even after the keys are released. When pressed, it lifts the dampers off the strings, enabling them to vibrate freely. This creates a richer, more resonant sound, allowing musicians to create smoother transitions between notes.
In addition to pianos, the sustain pedal is also found on many digital keyboards and synthesizers. It is often used in conjunction with other pedals, such as the soft pedal and una corda pedal, to enhance musical expression and control over dynamics.
