Surinam Toad
The Surinam Toad (Pipa pipa) is a unique amphibian native to the rainforests of South America. It is known for its flat, pancake-like body and distinctive skin texture, which helps it blend into its environment. This toad primarily inhabits slow-moving waters, where it feeds on small invertebrates.
One of the most remarkable features of the Surinam Toad is its reproductive method. The female carries fertilized eggs embedded in her back, where they develop into tadpoles. Once fully formed, the young toads emerge from her skin, showcasing a fascinating example of parental care in the animal kingdom.
