Sun's atmosphere
The Sun's atmosphere consists of several layers, primarily the photosphere, chromosphere, and corona. The photosphere is the visible surface of the Sun, where light is emitted. Above it lies the chromosphere, a thin layer that can be seen during a solar eclipse, displaying a reddish glow.
The outermost layer, the corona, extends millions of kilometers into space and is much hotter than the layers below it. The corona is visible during a total solar eclipse and is responsible for solar wind, which affects the Earth and other bodies in the solar system.
