Sultan Mehmed VI
Sultan Mehmed VI was the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, ruling from 1918 until 1922. He ascended to the throne after the death of his brother, Sultan Mehmed V, during a tumultuous period marked by World War I and the empire's subsequent decline. His reign was characterized by political instability and the growing influence of nationalist movements.
In 1922, following the establishment of the Republic of Turkey led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Mehmed VI was deposed and went into exile. He spent the remainder of his life in Italy, where he died in 1926. His reign marked the end of over six centuries of Ottoman rule.
