Sulcata Tortoise
The Sulcata Tortoise, also known as the African spurred tortoise, is one of the largest tortoise species, native to the arid regions of Africa. They can weigh over 100 pounds and grow up to 30 inches in length. Their distinctive, high-domed shell is tan or brown, with prominent spurs on their hind legs.
These tortoises are herbivorous, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and flowers. They are known for their long lifespan, often living over 50 years in captivity. Due to habitat loss and the pet trade, the Sulcata Tortoise is considered vulnerable in the wild.
