The sublingual gland is one of the three major salivary glands in the human body, alongside the parotid gland and submandibular gland. Located beneath the tongue, it is the smallest of the salivary glands and primarily produces saliva. This saliva contains enzymes that aid in digestion and help keep the mouth moist.
The sublingual gland secretes saliva through several small ducts that open into the floor of the mouth. Its secretion is mostly mucous, which helps lubricate food for easier swallowing. Proper functioning of the sublingual gland is essential for oral health and digestion.
