Striping
Striping is a data storage technique that involves dividing data into smaller segments and distributing them across multiple storage devices. This method enhances performance by allowing simultaneous read and write operations, which can significantly speed up data access. It is commonly used in RAID configurations, particularly in RAID 0, where data is split evenly across all drives without redundancy.
In addition to improving speed, striping can also increase storage capacity by combining the space of multiple drives. However, it is important to note that striping does not provide data protection; if one drive fails, all data can be lost. Therefore, it is often recommended to use striping in conjunction with other methods that ensure data redundancy.
