Strategic Air Command
Strategic Air Command (SAC) was a major command of the United States Air Force, established in 1946. Its primary mission was to provide nuclear deterrence during the Cold War by maintaining a fleet of bombers and intercontinental ballistic missiles. SAC played a crucial role in ensuring national security through its readiness to respond to potential threats.
In 1992, SAC was disbanded and its responsibilities were transferred to the newly formed Air Combat Command and Air Mobility Command. The legacy of SAC continues to influence modern military strategy and the importance of air power in national defense.
