Stony Meteorite
A stony meteorite is a type of meteorite primarily composed of silicate minerals, which are rich in silicon and oxygen. These meteorites are the most common type found on Earth, making up about 94% of all meteorite falls. They can vary in appearance, often resembling ordinary rocks, and are classified into two main groups: chondrites and achondrites.
Chondrites contain small, round particles called chondrules, while achondrites do not. Stony meteorites provide valuable insights into the early solar system and the formation of planetary bodies, as they are remnants from asteroids and other celestial objects. Their study helps scientists understand the history of our solar system and the processes that shaped it.
