Stigma (Mark)
Stigma, often referred to as a "mark," is a social phenomenon where individuals are labeled and discriminated against due to certain characteristics or conditions. This can include mental health issues, physical disabilities, or social identities such as race or sexual orientation. The stigma can lead to negative perceptions and treatment, affecting a person's self-esteem and social interactions.
The concept of stigma is closely related to the work of sociologist Erving Goffman, who explored how societal labels can create barriers for those affected. Stigmatized individuals may experience isolation, reduced opportunities, and increased stress, making it essential to address and challenge these societal attitudes for a more inclusive community.
