Stephen the Martyr
Stephen the Martyr is recognized as the first Christian martyr in the New Testament. He was one of the seven deacons appointed by the apostles to help with the distribution of food and aid to the needy in the early Christian community. Stephen was known for his strong faith and ability to perform miracles, which attracted both followers and opposition.
His preaching and defense of the Christian faith led to his arrest by the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council. Stephen was ultimately sentenced to death by stoning, making him a significant figure in Christian history and a symbol of faith and sacrifice for believers, particularly in relation to persecution and martyrdom.
