Steering Mechanics
Steering mechanics refer to the systems and components that allow a vehicle to change direction. This includes the steering wheel, steering column, and steering gear, which work together to translate the driver's input into movement of the wheels. The most common types of steering systems are rack and pinion and recirculating ball systems, each providing different levels of responsiveness and precision.
In modern vehicles, power steering systems, either hydraulic or electric, assist the driver in turning the wheel with less effort. This enhancement improves control and comfort, especially at low speeds. Proper maintenance of steering components is essential for safe driving and optimal vehicle performance.
