Steatite
Steatite, also known as soapstone, is a metamorphic rock primarily composed of talc, with varying amounts of chlorite, pyroxenes, micas, carbonates, and amphiboles. It is known for its softness, which allows it to be easily carved and shaped. This property makes steatite a popular material for sculptures, countertops, and other decorative items.
Due to its heat resistance and ability to retain heat, steatite is often used in cooking stoves and fireplaces. Additionally, it is non-porous, making it suitable for laboratory countertops and sinks. Its unique qualities have made it a valuable resource in both artistic and practical applications.
