Stative Verbs
Stative verbs are verbs that describe a state rather than an action. They express feelings, thoughts, relationships, or conditions. Common examples include know, believe, love, and own. Unlike action verbs, stative verbs do not typically appear in continuous (progressive) forms, as they represent a situation that is static or unchanging.
These verbs can be categorized into different types, such as mental states, emotional states, and possession. For instance, when someone says, "I have a car," the verb have indicates possession, while "I feel happy" uses the stative verb feel to express an emotional state.
