Statistical Areas
Statistical Areas are geographic regions defined for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and presenting statistical data. These areas help researchers and policymakers understand demographic, economic, and social trends within specific locations. They can include cities, counties, or larger regions, depending on the data being analyzed.
In the United States, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) designates various types of Statistical Areas, such as Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and Micropolitan Statistical Areas. These classifications are based on population density and economic ties, allowing for more accurate comparisons and insights into regional characteristics.
