State Militias
State militias are military forces organized by individual states in the United States. They are distinct from the federal military and can be called upon for various duties, including disaster response, law enforcement support, and community defense. Each state has its own laws governing the formation and operation of these militias.
Historically, state militias played a crucial role in the early defense of the nation, especially during conflicts like the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Today, they are often referred to as the National Guard, which can be activated by state governors or the federal government in times of need.
