Stalag Luft III
Stalag Luft III was a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II, specifically designed for captured Allied airmen. Located near Sagan, in what is now Poland, it operated from 1942 until the end of the war in 1945. The camp was known for its strict security measures and was divided into several compounds, each housing different nationalities of prisoners.
The camp gained notoriety for the Great Escape in March 1944, when a group of prisoners attempted to break out through a tunnel. Although many managed to escape, most were recaptured, and the event highlighted the resilience and ingenuity of the prisoners.
