St. Francis
St. Francis of Assisi was an Italian Catholic friar and preacher born in 1181. He is best known for his deep love of nature and animals, often referred to as the patron saint of animals and the environment. St. Francis founded the Franciscan Order, which emphasized a life of poverty, humility, and service to others.
He is also famous for his teachings on peace and compassion, encouraging people to live in harmony with all of creation. St. Francis's life and work have inspired many, leading to his canonization as a saint in 1228 by Pope Gregory IX. His feast day is celebrated on October 4th.
