St. Erasmus of Formia
St. Erasmus of Formia, also known as St. Elmo, is a Christian saint and martyr traditionally believed to have lived in the 3rd century. He is often associated with sailors and is considered the patron saint of sailors and abdominal pain. His feast day is celebrated on June 2nd, and he is frequently depicted in art holding a lamp or a boat.
The legend of St. Erasmus includes stories of his miraculous survival during persecution and his ability to calm storms at sea. His name is also linked to the phenomenon known as St. Elmo's Fire, a weather-related electrical discharge that sailors often interpreted as a sign of protection.
