St. Basil the Blessed
St. Basil the Blessed was a Russian Orthodox saint known for his eccentric behavior and deep faith. Born in the 1460s, he became famous for his acts of charity and his commitment to the poor. He often wandered the streets of Moscow, wearing tattered clothes and speaking out against social injustices.
He is also recognized for his close association with St. Basil's Cathedral, which was built in Moscow in the 16th century. The cathedral, with its colorful onion domes, is a symbol of Russian architecture and culture. St. Basil the Blessed is celebrated on January 2nd in the Orthodox calendar.
