Squamish language
The Squamish language is a Coast Salish language spoken by the Squamish Nation, an Indigenous group located in British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Salishan language family and is known for its complex phonetic system, which includes a variety of consonant sounds and vowel distinctions.
Efforts are underway to revitalize the Squamish language, as it has faced decline due to historical factors such as colonization and residential schools. Community programs, language classes, and resources are being developed to encourage younger generations to learn and use the language in daily life.
