Spinal Segments
Spinal segments are the individual sections of the spine, which is divided into three main regions: the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions. Each spinal segment consists of a pair of vertebrae and the associated nerves that emerge from the spinal cord. There are a total of 33 vertebrae in the human spine, categorized into 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 4 coccygeal segments.
Each spinal segment plays a crucial role in protecting the spinal cord and facilitating communication between the brain and the rest of the body. The nerves that exit each segment control various functions, including movement and sensation in specific areas. Proper alignment and health of these segments are essential for overall neurological function and physical well-being.
