Spencer Compton
Spencer Compton, 1st Earl of Wilmington, was a British statesman born in 1693. He served as Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1742 to 1743, during the reign of King George II. Compton was a member of the Whig Party and played a significant role in the political landscape of his time.
Before becoming Prime Minister, Compton held various political positions, including serving as the Chancellor of the Exchequer. His leadership was marked by efforts to stabilize the government and manage the challenges of the War of the Austrian Succession. Compton passed away in 1743, shortly after leaving office.
