Speakeasies
During the Prohibition era in the United States (1920-1933), the sale and consumption of alcohol were illegal. In response, secret bars known as speakeasies emerged, allowing people to enjoy drinks in hidden locations. These establishments often required patrons to speak a password to gain entry, hence the name "speakeasy."
Speakeasies were typically disguised as legitimate businesses, such as soda shops or soda fountains, to avoid detection by law enforcement. They became popular social hubs, featuring live music and dancing, and played a significant role in the cultural landscape of the Roaring Twenties.
