Southwest Conference
The Southwest Conference was a collegiate athletic conference in the United States, primarily active from 1914 to 1996. It consisted of universities located in the southwestern region, including notable members like the University of Texas and Texas A&M University. The conference was known for its strong football and basketball programs.
In 1996, the Southwest Conference dissolved due to various factors, including financial challenges and the rise of other conferences. Many of its member schools joined the Big 12 Conference, which was formed shortly after the dissolution, allowing them to continue competing at a high level in college athletics.
