Southern Patagonian Ice Field
The Southern Patagonian Ice Field is one of the largest ice fields outside of Antarctica and Greenland, located in the Andes mountains of Patagonia, spanning both Chile and Argentina. It covers an area of approximately 13,000 square kilometers and feeds numerous glaciers, including the famous Perito Moreno Glacier.
This ice field is a vital part of the region's ecosystem, providing freshwater to surrounding rivers and lakes. It is also a significant tourist attraction, drawing visitors for its stunning landscapes and opportunities for activities like hiking and glacier trekking. The ice field is a key indicator of climate change, as it is rapidly melting due to rising temperatures.
