South Florida Water Management District
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency responsible for managing water resources in South Florida. Established in 1929, it oversees water supply, flood control, and ecosystem restoration across a vast area, including the Everglades. The district works to balance the needs of urban areas, agriculture, and natural habitats.
SFWMD operates a network of canals, levees, and water control structures to regulate water flow and quality. It also collaborates with local governments, environmental organizations, and the public to promote sustainable water management practices and protect vital ecosystems in the region.
