South Dakota Legislature
The South Dakota Legislature is the legislative body of the state of South Dakota, responsible for making laws and setting policies. It consists of two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. Each year, legislators meet in the state capital, Pierre, to discuss and vote on proposed bills and budgets.
The Legislature operates on a biennial schedule, meeting annually for a regular session that typically begins in January. Members of the House serve two-year terms, while Senators serve four-year terms. The Governor of South Dakota can also propose legislation and has the power to veto bills passed by the Legislature.
