Sonya Sotomayor is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, having been appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009. She is the first Latina and the third woman to serve on the Court, bringing a unique perspective to her role in interpreting the law. Born on June 25, 1954, in Bronx, New York, Sotomayor grew up in a Puerto Rican family. She earned her undergraduate degree from Princeton University and her law degree from Yale Law School. Before joining the Supreme Court, she served as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
