The "Son of Sam" refers to David Berkowitz, an American serial killer who terrorized New York City in the late 1970s. He was responsible for a series of shootings that resulted in six deaths and several injuries between 1976 and 1977. Berkowitz claimed that a dog belonging to his neighbor, whom he referred to as Sam, commanded him to commit the murders.
