Smallest Planet
The smallest planet in our solar system is Mercury. It is the closest planet to the Sun and has a diameter of about 4,880 kilometers (3,032 miles). Due to its small size and proximity to the Sun, Mercury has extreme temperature variations, ranging from very hot during the day to extremely cold at night.
Mercury has a rocky surface covered with craters, similar to the Moon. It has no atmosphere to retain heat, which contributes to these temperature swings. Despite its small size, Mercury plays a significant role in our understanding of planetary formation and evolution.
